Templates and round blocks

Save entire setups, compress repeat rounds, and reload them when creating another tournament.

What is a block

A block represents a round configuration and the number of consecutive rounds that repeat it. For example, if rounds 1 through 4 use exactly the same format, grouping, order, timing, and rules, the template can preserve them as a single block with four rounds.

What does a template store

The template preserves the functional fields equivalent to the round configuration: format, grouping, order criteria, times, scoring, team and pair rules, pairings, waits, absences and available automations. It does not save participants, results or matches played.

Save from a configured tournament

  1. Opens the tournament that already has its round configurations.
  2. Enter the section Settings.
  3. Check that each configuration exactly represents the desired stage.
  4. Select Save template.
  5. Assign a name and decide its visibility.
  6. Confirm the save.

Smartdomino compares consecutive configurations. The equivalents are automatically compressed into blocks; when any relevant rule changes a new block starts.

Load when creating another tournament

  1. Open the tournament creation wizard.
  2. In the round configurations step, select Load template.
  3. Choose a template available for the active organization.
  4. Smartdomino copies its blocks to the wizard state.
  5. Review, add, delete or modify blocks before creating the tournament.

Load does not permanently link the new tournament to the template: it copies an editable base to save repetitive actions.

Expansion on execution

The template is stored compactly, but Smartdomino re-expands the blocks into specific configurations when needed by the tournament or attendee. The total number of rounds is the sum of the amount indicated in all blocks.

Private and public templates

  • Private: can be used by the owner organization and organizations authorized by its hierarchy.
  • Public: can be available to any organization, but publishing it requires permission.

Good practices

  • Name the template by format and purpose, for example “Qualifier 5 + Final 1”.
  • Checks the format, grouping and order of each block before saving.
  • Always check the uploaded copy: a template saves work, but it does not replace the validation of the rules of the new tournament.
  • If you change a stage, confirm whether only the tournament copy should be edited or a new reusable template also created.
